You can’t always get what you want …
We’ve taken to watching more and more movies on television through Comcast’s On Demand service. Yeah, we have to pay extra, $6.99 seems to be the going price, but sometimes it’s worth it.
Of course, sometimes it isn’t. We watched the French film “A French Gigolo” the other night and I thought I was going to toss my vichyssoise. It involves a guy, a Parisian housepainter, who’s having trouble making ends meet. So what does he do?
He becomes a gigolo. Now why didn’t I think of that? It would have made my college years a lot easier, much less fun.
Oh, yeah. I WASN’T GOOD LOOKING ENOUGH!
Neither, though, is the protagonist of “A French Gigolo.”
There’s one problem with the service. We were going to watch “Antichrist,” the Lars Von Trier film, and review it for this week’s edition of “Movies 101.” But all of a sudden, the film disappeared. Bob Glatzer was able to watch it. By the time we got around to screening it, the listing had disappeared.
The Comcast representative we reached said we hadn’t gotten it yet. Ooooo-K. Then why had it been there? And why did Glatzer see it? The rep had no answer.
Just because a new world of On Demand is on us doesn’t mean that
SNAFU
isn’t still the way of the world.
