Prescribe exercise
In light of the new health care legislation being passed, many people are wondering how much the bill is going to cost and how these costs can be prevented. Not only is the population concerned about the costs of health care, but insurance companies are also. Prescribing exercise as a treatment and preventive measure of many diseases is the best way to keep costs down.
One of the leading diseases in the United States is Type II diabetes, which is due to a decreased sensitivity to insulin, which is used to help the liver take up glucose from the blood supply to store it as glycogen to be used as energy later on. Type II diabetes can be cured and, most important of all, prevented through exercise. Not only does exercise help prevent and cure Type II diabetes, it prevents many other types of diseases such as developing colon cancer and heart disease. It also fights depression, premature death and strengthens bones and joints.
In conclusion, if the new health care plan included exercise, this would be better for taxpayers in the long run because it’s an affordable way to prevent multiple diseases that cost millions each year to treat.
