Couples’ rights in danger

The Spokesman-Review

My generation is facing a revolution that we need to win. I’m a lesbian from Spokane who hopes to have equal rights. I want my future protected. How can I start a family knowing that my children could be taken away if my partner died? I respect those who want to have a “sacred marriage.” I do want to be able to get married, but the legislation is about “anything but marriage.”

Right now we are just fighting to have the same rights and benefits a marriage allows. If you don’t approve Referendum 71, my rights could be taken away.

The single or widowed elderly won’t even be able to have the same rights as a married couple if Referendum 71 isn’t approved. These are your parents you are taking the rights away from also.
