The Spokesman-Review

Your article “Pro-business group lambastes measure” (Sept. 30) focuses on a report by the Washington Policy Center, an organization that is funded for the purpose of promoting big developers and big business. The board of the Washington Policy Center consists of CEOs from large Western Washington corporations. I’m surprised that The Spokesman-Review would consider it credible.

As an example, this is an organization that describes efforts by governments to respond to global warming as “hysteria.” Their idea for fixing global warming is through “personal incentives.” If only it were that easy. But it’s not.

We need to take real steps to tackle our environmental problems. Lack of control is how the Spokane River became among the most polluted in the nation from mining corporations. Isn’t it time that we learned from our mistakes that we can’t make necessary change through voluntary means? We need to stop protecting the rights of big corporations and start protecting the river and our community.

I support Proposition 4 – because it will help our local economy, it will keep good jobs here in Spokane, and it will clean up the Spokane River.
