Bring back bumper stickers

The Spokesman-Review

Just a few years ago the words “Save our Dams” dotted vehicles and buildings across Eastern Washington. It’s time for us to dust off those bumper stickers and posters and display them again.

The Obama administration is considering removing our four lower Snake River dams as a “last resort.” Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers realizes “as a last resort” just gives ammunition to those on the far left who want nothing more than to tear out the dams.

It is important for all of us in Eastern Washington to support those who are fighting to keep the dams, which provide us with affordable, clean, renewable energy. We need to ask those who want to tear out the dams how they propose to make up the energy the dams provide. Are they ready to build coal, nuclear or gas power plants, skyrocketing our electricity costs? Are they prepared to build more roads for more trucks to haul goods to and from Portland once the barge traffic is eliminated?

The last several years there’s been record salmon runs, so obviously the fish enhancement measures are working.

Call or e-mail all your state representatives.

Help Cathy keep up the fight to save our dams.
