Wrong vehicle for labor spat

The Spokesman-Review

With all the economic and social woes rampant throughout our community, I dislike having to write this, but I saw a terrible abuse aboard a tax-subsidized bus. There are slanderous signs posted on city buses, denigrating a well-known and liked business, which, by the way, also adds millions of dollars to our tax base.

Fred Meyer is being attacked by a grocery workers union with statements that may or may not be true, but are most certainly placed for entirely political and self-serving purposes by the union and not for educational purposes or the general public good.

This is not a “freedom of speech” issue, it is purely designed to politicize and intimidate. If these signs were reviewed for appropriateness by city attorneys, shame on them, again. Fred Meyer provides thousands of jobs and millions of tax dollars.

I am just a shopper, but you can bet my purchases at Fred’s will be more often because of this attack by the city (by acquiescence, through poor judgment).
