Make room for monsters
Hey, I think Laura Carder is on to something when she pushes her creationism, oops, I mean creation “science” (Letters, Oct. 18). Even though most every modern country on the planet laughs at Americans’ rejection of evolution, I think there is room for many other “logical theories,” so I’d like to push the Flying Spaghetti Monster creation science theory as a viable option (venganza.com). It certainly has as much evidence as Carder’s creationism – sorry again, creation science – and is also much more fun for the kids. I believe that if kids had a true choice, they would choose this “theory.”
Of course the above is a joke but if people like Carder had their way and were allowed to push religious views (disguised as science) into the classroom, then why couldn’t others push their views in as well? Now just imagine 10-20 years down the road when kids are sitting in a glorified Sunday school all day because they don’t have time for true knowledge. Nothing is stopping Carder from teaching her kids creationism or intelligence design, whatever it’s called today, but school is not the place, church is.
