Adhere to 10 p.m. rule

The Spokesman-Review

It’s a sad day for Spokane when a longtime neighborhood music venue, the Rocket Market, can be shut down because of someone who doesn’t appreciate the ambiance of a circle of neighbors and friends coming together and having fun.

Our own city ordinances dictate that from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m., excessive noise will not be tolerated. This is a very reasonable time frame. I am a musician and I am in full agreement of the 10 p.m. rule. It just seems wrong to me that one or two complaining “neighbors” can circumvent that rule and shut down a legal venue and take away a long-established community neighborhood gathering. Especially one that has been active for so long.

Kudos and best wishes for Alan Shepherd and his crew. They make a big difference in the South Hill neighborhood. My only advice (I guess) now is to put out a free earplug dispensary to the complaining “neighbors” and petition the rest of the neighbors to reinstate an outdoor venue for local musicians. 10 o’clock is 10 o’clock. What’s good for the rest of Spokane should be good for the Rocket Market, too.
