Upcoming Sierra Club events

September is awesome!

Here in the Inland Northwest we are treated to mostly sunshine, relative warmth, and a bit of crispness to the air that always makes it feel fresh and clean. Of course this year we have also been lucky that a great group of people have worked so hard to organize Sustainable September Spokane .  And just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, an email from our local Sierra Club chapter reminded us that there is a seemingly infinite number of opportunites to participate in the process of making Spokane and the Inland Northwest a better place to live.  Check out these four opportunities after the jump

1)  Neighborhood house party to learn more about Proposition 4 (the Community Bill of Rights, endorsed by Sierra Club UCR).

- when:  August 9 (Wednesday) - 5:30 - 7:30
- location:  John & Mary Ralston Historic House, 2421 W. Mission Ave (corner of Mission and Cochran in West Central Neighborhood).
- Co-hosts:  Gunnar Holmquist, Shallan Dawson, John & Rachael Osborn, Bea Lackaff, Sam Mace

- RSVP to John Osborn john@waterplanet.ws 509.328-1087
and for more information about how to support YES for Proposition 4, check out twitter.com/EnvisionSpokane

2)  Tour of Spokane Falls:  An Industrial and Natural History of the Spokane Waterfalls

Water has returned to Spokane Falls!  In the wake of Sierra Club’s historic settlement with Avista, public-interest water lawyer Rachael Paschal Osborn will lead a tour of Spokane Falls.  Topics will include economic and cultural values of the falls for all people, and ongoing efforts to restore the bed of the waterfalls channel.

- when:  August 12 (Saturday) 1 p.m.
- where:  meet at the Clock Tower, Riverfront Park
- No RSVP necessary — we’ll see you there!

3)  Environmental History Tour

Forces of “Manifest Destiny” converged on the Spokane River.  In the 200 years since the Lewis & Clark and David Thompson explorations, profound damage has occurred.  Understanding history is the first step to diagnosis and treatment for the Spokane River and Aquifer.   $50 suggested donation to support our Spokane River work.

- when:  August 12 (Saturday) 8:30 a.m. - 5 p.m.
- RSVP to John Osborn john@waterplanet.ws 509.328-1087

4)  Potluck and meet Washington State volunteer leaders with Sierra Club

Our local group (Upper Columbia River Group) will host the statewide meeting of Club leaders on August 19-20.   Please join us for a potluck dinner (main course provided)

when:  August 19 (Saturday), gather at 6:30, dinner around 7:30
where:  John & Mary Ralston Historic House, 2421 W. Mission Ave (corner of Mission and Cochran in West Central Neighborhood).
- RSVP to John Osborn john@waterplanet.ws 509.328-1087
