Message getting through

The Spokesman-Review

The following comments relate to the Aug. 23 letter by Mary Day Shepard, “Democrats are wimping out.”

She describes senators and House members as turning into a bunch of wimps. I think there has been some awakening about how their constituents find Obama’s passed and desired legislation terrible for the nation. Citizens express how huge costs will burden them far into the future.

I challenge her judgment of continually supporting Democrat candidates because of her commitment to social justice. I am a conservative Roman Catholic striving to follow Gospel teachings on social justice, and I too often have heard poor guidance on social justice from church representatives including some clergy.

The subject letter does not recognize recent activity at town hall meetings as democracy in practice. Government health care, the stimulus package, the proposed Obama federal budget and the cap-and-trade bill are not wanted by Americans. The programs are morally repugnant, economically irresponsible and terrible moves toward socialism and a dictatorial regime.

The worst of all is the support of abortion and the trend toward euthanasia and terrible practices of eugenics.
