Short memories

The Spokesman-Review

Just eight years ago Friday, our country was cowardly attacked. I remember so clearly the images, anger, disgust and America rallying around each other. Our nation’s flag could be seen flying everywhere. The pride we had and displayed in our country after this atrocity was astounding.

Friday morning, when I left work, I chose to count the number of American flags being flown in our city. I would not count flags being flown by any government agency or schools.

My ride is a mere 12 miles from the airport to Five Mile Prairie on the north side of Spokane. I had no trouble counting the seven flags on this beautiful Friday morning unobstructed on my Harley. Seven flags and three of them in the cul-de-sac where I live.

Darryl Worley penned a song, “Have you forgotten?” Obviously and disappointing to me, our city apparently has.

Bless the men and women serving our country, protecting our freedom. Thank our police, firefighters and other uniforms for their service. May God bless the USA and our pride of this nation again return.
