Better ball fields needed

The Spokesman-Review

I have personally experienced the youth baseball fields in the South Complex, Dwight Merkel, Andrew Rypien, Franklin Park and various other baseball/softball fields throughout the city. I have also played baseball and soccer in Yakima, Seattle, Ellensburg, Wenatchee, Bellingham and the Tri-Cities. The fields in those cities are much better than the fields we have here in Spokane.

I am glad to hear that Spokane has made an effort to develop better soccer fields with the upcoming redevelopment of the Dwight Merkel complex. However, Spokane is desperately in need of dedicated baseball fields rather than the currently available softball fields. These fields have dirt infields and don’t have pitchers’ mounds, therefore making it difficult to play “real” baseball. Thus, I ask you to support the development of a dedicated youth baseball complex in Spokane.
