Remember the off switch

The Spokesman-Review

Much is being written and spoken about the need to adopt a more conservative – if not austere – approach to life, one that includes conserving resources and tightening of the proverbial belt.

I agree wholeheartedly with this philosophy; I thought the community of Spokane was in general agreement as well. That is why I was rather perplexed when I walked by Comstock Park on 29th Avenue recently and saw that all of its floodlights were blazing.

Now, if it had been 10 p.m., it would not have surprised me; but it was 10 a.m., and the sun was shining brightly.

My question is simple: Who is the keeper of the lights at Comstock Park? If the answer is “no one,” then may I suggest someone be selected or appointed ASAP? Such waste is not acceptable under the best of circumstances, and we are certainly a considerable distance from those.
