Brannon Bond Reduced To $5000

Huckleberries has learned that Judge Benjamin Simpson reduced the bond assessed Jim Brannon in his lawsuit to overturn the Coeur d’Alene City Council elections from $40,000 to $5,000. The action occurred this morning. In reducing the bond, Simpson said that nothing should be construed “as a limitation on recovery of all other costs in excess of $5,000 and attorney fees to the prevailing parties upon proper motion at the conclusion of this case.” In other words, Councilman Mike Kennedy, the only remaining defendant in the case, can sue for court and legal fees, if he wins the case. Brannon was given 7 days to post the bond. He also must pay more than $5,000 for documents and information he is seeking from the county elections department.
