Sermo: Idaho Colleges Lacking
Sermo:
Now to my personal opinion. I think the colleges that Idaho offers are some of the worst
in the country. I finished my undergraduate degree in 2000 and had friends that went to both U of I and BSU. From what I understand these schools have no academic integrity. All students talked about was how easy it was to cheat on tests and spent more time on greek row than in the classroom, U of I mainly as their campus is a greek life sh.. show. Another drawback that I see is that they do not have the highest caliber professors. If you don’t agree all I have to say is if you could work in Moscow, Idaho or Seattle, Washington which would you choose.

Question: Did you attend an Idaho college of any sort? What was your experience?
Do your daughter a favor and encourage her to look past geography and look for a school that gives her the most benefits. Find a school that is strong in the programs that you are interested in. Doesn’t make sense to go to a top 20 overall school if another school has a better individual program of interest. Make a list of pros and cons for each college and make a decision from that.

Also Idaho schools have low endowments which means less money for research, which is mainly what most professors are interested in. Another drawback which someone else mentioned is there is no cultural diversity. Just because you have friends that are from around the country does not make you culturally diverse. You experience cultural diversity by submerging yourself into unknown cultures. You explore the city where you’re going to school and you interact with all of the different things it has to offer. Moscow and Boise are the most cookie cutter places you could live, everything is the same. You’re not going to grow as a person living in the same area, having most of the same friends as high school and being able to come home on weekends when things get tough.
With that being said you really get out what you put into your college education. I honestly believe that I got an Ivy League education from a lower ranked university because I put everything I had into it. I enjoyed going to class, enjoyed learning, took challenging classes and got involved in a lot of activities.
“Education does not exist to provide you with a job.
Education is here to nourish your soul.”
