Catching up with WSU links

As we slowly moved around the web this morning – no caffeine yet, so everything is being done slowly – we found a bunch of interesting links, some with WSU news, others with Pac-10 implications. We have all of them, plus some more on Thursday’s workout, on the link, so read on.

• While we were watching practice yesterday, we did a stint on the Dennis Patchin radio show in Spokane. Because the time on the radio coincided with some team scrimmaging, we didn’t leave the practice field like we usually do when radio calls. We stayed in a corner and tried to look as unobtrusive as possible, talking on the cell while also keeping an eye on the action. But we weren’t unobtrusive enough – it’s hard when you’re as big as I am to hide anywhere – and assistant coach Mike Levenseller noticed the earplugs and phone. What he yelled at me, I don’t have any idea, but it sure broke my train of thought. And, if you were listening, I apologize for that. It probably made me sound quite idiotic. More so than usual, I mean. … One thing that occurs at spring practice is conversation. You can only watch so many backpedal drills and guys practicing stances before you have to start talking about something. With Kenny Alfred in attendance, the conversation turned toward WSU’s Pro Day, and if any scouts attended after last year (in case you don’t know, a couple of the scouts en route to pro day last year picked up speeding tickets in Colfax, which was the topic of blog conversation for a while). So we went looking on the web to see if we could find anything about the day. We did and here it is. If you’re wondering, the Pro Day occurred while we were in LA covering the Pac-10 basketball tournament. … There were also quite a few spectators yesterday, including Ferris High coach Jim Sharkey along with some West Side visitors. … OK, on to links. … We had our story in the S-R this morning, after posting it and some notes last night. … From Seattle, the Huskies are trying players at new positions, one at cornerback and one as a long snapper . … Arizona is also trying a player at a new position this spring, possibly making Taimi Tutogi one of the biggest tailbacks in the nation. … The pistol offense – the quarterback is not as far back as in the shotgun, so the running back is somewhere behind him – invented by Nevada’s Chris Ault, is getting a tryout at UCLA. … A couple of running backs are looking forward to their time in the spotlight, one at USC and one at ASU . … And, finally, Oregon is adding some more defensive schemes to Nick Aliotti’s already complicated system.
