JohnA: Hats Off To Off-The-Grid Pals

JohnA: I think about our energy costs every time we visit our friends on the Coeur d’Alene River. That’s because they are ‘off the grid’. Yep, they live on wind and solar power, with the use of a gas-powered generator on those rare windless days and not-so-rare sunless days. You would never know it from their routine lives, including their regular use of computers, appliances and TVs. Of course the latter are not HD, which use many times the juice of non-HD, but that’s about the only concession. My hats off to anyone able to make the commitment to being totally self-contained in their daily lives, and thus insulated from the whims of outside forces.
