Mom’s weekend packed at WSU

COUGARS

No football today, but we will be out at the baseball game vs. the nation’s top-ranked team, Arizona State. The temperature should be somewhere around 43 degrees for the 5:30 start tonight, which should be somewhat of a shock to the Sun Devils’ system. But before we set our sights on baseball, let’s cover the football links and notes. We have both, so read on.

• We had our story in today’s S-R, along with some more practice notes on last night’s blog post . And that’s about all the free Cougar stuff we can pass along. Though we missed Ted Miller’s WSU mention earlier this week, so we’ll catch up with that. … As we’ve noted earlier, with an experienced group back, Oregon defensive coordinator Nick Aliotti has decided to add another level of complexity to the Duck D. … USC quarterback Matt Barkley decided to keep it simple this offseason, at least in the dining room. He lost 10 pounds. … Arizona State is counting on an oft-injured offensive lineman to stay healthy and contribute this fall. … Such is not the case at UCLA, where receiver Josh Smith has a torn ligament in his knee. … There was no injury, but UW has already lost basketball player Clarence Trent, who found out football wasn’t for him. … One basketball note. Want more money as a coach? Just make sure your name is mentioned in connection with the Oregon job. Another coach gets an extension and a raise after the Ducks make inquiries. This time it is Butler’s Brad Stevens. So where does Oregon go from here ?

• That’s all we can pass on this morning. We’ll be back if news warrants and with our baseball story late this evening. Until then …
