Pasco post a little late

Dave Trimmer

Early on a sun-kissed Saturday in Pasco the crowd at Edgar Brown Stadium was buzzing.

Derek Eager of Tahoma, who had set the state record in the javelin early this year, shattered his own mark by more than 10 feet with a throw of 229-feet, 5-inches, the second best throw in the nation.

That seemed to be a challenge for everyone and area athletes stepped up, winning eight individual events with eight seconds and eight thirds to go with the Mead boys’ 11 th team title at the 49th Pasco Invite track meet.

As usual, the Pasco was great. This time it seemed to be a notch better than usual for local athletes because we couldn’t even mention runner-ups. Sorry I couldn’t post the story on Saturday. I kept getting a message that the site was down for maintainance and at 10:30 I still had a two hour drive in front of me. Then, with Saturday’s great weather carrying into Sunday, well … better late than never.

Additionally … The Tri-City Herald has an outstanding side show from my good buddy, photographer Paul Erickson (there are plenty of pictures of local athletes, including Chewelah shot putter Will Lohman, pix 4, and Baylee Mires of Mead, pix 14-plus). Also, reporter Rene Ferran started his coverage with a feature on Derek Eager and then had this coverage , plus this , which includes an interesting tidbit about an athlete attending a track meet instead of a club event (love it). Ferran also filed a report for The Seattle Times, which had more on Eager’s javelin record .
