Taxes – what a bargain

The Spokesman-Review

I’ve just finished my April ritual of paying income and property taxes.

I’ve put in my little share to help finance an army, a navy, a marine corps, air force, a coast guard, police, fire protection, a school system, parks, forest management, highways, freeways, bridges, ferries, a court system, a penal (prison) system, public health and disease control, senior and child services, weights and measurements protection, animal control, worker protection and so many other services too numerous to mention in this small space.

Without any government services we would live in a dangerous world at the mercy of the strong and ruthless. Life would be unbelievably difficult.

When we actually realize the extent of the services our governments provide, we’ve got to see what a big bang we get for our bucks. It’s the biggest bargain around!
