Romenesko: Dump Unsigned Editorials
Jim Romenesko posted this on Poytner Online Forums: ” … the letters to the editor page is a far more honest feedback forum than anything ever conjured up on radio, TV or the Web. (Yes, the Web. The wingnut bloggers always have an echo chamber who’ll shout down anyone who comes in with a different point of view.) But they’ve had the appearance of such conceit, and one aspect of that is the unsigned editorial, an anachronism dating back to the days of partisan presses in which one could really say an editorial’s point of view was “in the opinion of this newspaper.” Today, of course, there’s no such thing — ask your friends on the Wall Street Journal staff how often they agree with the edit page. Getting rid of the unsigned editorial should be the first thing newspapers do to keep up with the times. They’re only 80-100 years late.” More here .
Question: Should a newspaper’s editorial be signed with the writer’s name?
