Schools Look @ Later Monday Start-Up

Item: School bells will ring later: Teachers getting extra time for ‘collaboration’/ Maureen Dolan, Coeur d’Alene Press

More Info: Monday mornings won’t be the same in Coeur d’Alene schools next year. Beginning in September, the first bell of the day will ring later on Mondays if the school board approves a new schedule devised to give teachers time during their workday to meet, discuss lesson plans, instruction methods and goals. …Trustees are expected to vote on the new schedule during their regular meeting at 5 p.m. Monday at the Midtown Center, 1505 N. Fifth St.

Question: This one doesn’t make a lick of sense to me. This suggests taking an hour from the beginning of the school week, so teachers can hobnob? This is going to upset the schedule of working parents. Why can’t they put this hour on the end of a day, if it’s really needed? Anyone?
