The Slice: Soon you’ll feel the heat

Parking is simple when you don’t have to find shade or chart the course of the sun to predict the future location of shade.

Enjoy it while you can.

Wrong trail: An item in Tuesday’s Slice referred to the Centennial Trail. That should have been the Trail of the Coeur d’Alenes.

Slice stat: There are 17 country music-loving liberals in Spokane. And there are three more in Idaho.

Just wondering: How long can you listen to the uninterrupted sound of lawn mowing in the background before wondering, “Couldn’t every yard within earshot have been mowed twice by now?”

From Sunday: Shelley Davis was among those who would name the Davenport Hotel to complete the Spokane hat trick of excellence started with the Looff Carrousel and the Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist.

Slice answers: Most respondents said they trusted their neighbors to do the right thing with misdelivered mail. But one reader said she didn’t trust hers to do the right thing in any situation.

Tuesday quiz: Cheney’s Gail Hilton was just one of those who knew the answer – Expo ’67 in Montreal. But I’m declaring her the winner because she actually attended that world’s fair in Quebec.

I did, too. I went with my mom. But I already have a pretty good supply of reporter’s notebooks.

Agree or disagree: It’s no secret that there are correlations between certain socio-economic factors and the likelihood of being a smoker. But a Slice reader argued that, around here, the stark smokers-density difference between one part of town and another is astonishing.

Today’s Slice question: If you accept that Spokane in 2010 is populated with a lot of people aspiring to be big fish in a small pond, does it follow that we are short on those who truly think big?

Write The Slice at P.O. Box 2160, Spokane, WA 99210; call (509) 459-5470; fax (509) 459-5098; e-mail pault@spokesman.com. It is my experience that nest-building birds don’t want to hear advice on site selection.
