Evaluate candidates
The Spokesman-Review provided eight pages of candidate profiles to help us make our primary ballot decisions. I appreciate the effort that went into the interviews and the wealth of information provided. Many people ignore the primary election, letting others decide the final two. But, in some cases, the better candidate may be lost just because of voter apathy.
Remember the Clinton quote? “It’s the economy, stupid!” Well, the truth is: “It’s the candidate’s character, voter!” The better candidate will demonstrate wisdom, compassion, a respect for life, liberty, personal and corporate property; and will advocate for policies that encourage healthy families as the foundation for a healthy society.
Like the S-R, a group of citizens interviewed all the candidates in the local, contested races and evaluated them on this standard alone, not political ties. All but four candidates graciously accepted the invitation and were candid in their response to the hard questions.
