Keep politter in its place
I strongly agree with Spokane’s Jon Louis and his letter, “Signs of disrespect,” Aug. 1. Every two years Spokane is littered for about four months with political yard signs. I, too, believe these signs should not be allowed on public property or on public rights-of-way.
Our City Council passed a sign code ordinance to improve the safety and beauty of our city. They really fell short of the task when they disregarded political signs in the code.
Like Mr. Louis, I feel inclined to vote against any candidate that would desecrate our city that way. Why would anyone vote for a person because they have their name on a sign stuck in the ground right there, and there, and there, and, oh yeah, over there? It makes no sense.
Why not have the candidates use the money they spend on all those signs and have an educated debate on the issues at hand on Channel 5 or something?
