Thrift explains campaign calls
In answer to John Beck’s letter Aug. 10, I’ve gotten a few complaints about robo-calls. The main reason candidates in the Republican Party send them is to try to get our message of limited government and responsible spending out to the voters.
We and our allies have put many hours into organizing forums for citizens to attend to meet candidates and get to know them. We feel it is important for voters to make informed choices. Sadly, attendance at all such events this year has been low. Even though we hear lots of complaints about government and taxes, too few of the 250,000 registered voters in Spokane County are taking the time to monitor electeds and their decisions. Maybe that’s why our state is facing bankruptcy, and our city and county are in debt?
Our candidates are by and large not wealthy people – they are working people, and so are their friends. They don’t have funds to do fancy mailings. We doorbell homes, we stand on street corners. The ACLU, unions, and Planned Parenthood use their millions of government dollars to aid Democrats. We have you. Don’t turn us off.
We treasure your votes.
