Tragedy was preventable

Let’s have a relay run that crosses highways without supervision. Yeah, that would be cool. And if someone gets hit, we’ll try our best to cover our rears and valiantly vow to continue on.

The relay run from Spokane to Sandpoint last weekend was a complete disaster. The organizers say they called the fire department two months ago to mention they were going to have a run. Yeah? Then how come Fire District 4 had no idea?

The organizers say, “We are taking every single precaution we can.” Then they say that they will start taking the precaution of escorting runners across Highway 2 next time? The fact is they are not taking many precautions at all.

This accident was completely preventable. The organizers chose not to make it as safe as possible. How sad that they are not taking full responsibility for this stupidity. They are, in fact, pretending to have no responsibility at all.
