Abigail Adams’ shoes filled

I remember watching the television series on President John Adams and wishing that Abigail Adams lived in Spokane. But I was wrong! We don’t need Abigail Adams – we have County Commissioner Bonnie Mager.

She, too, is strong, true to her convictions, unafraid to stand up to her opponents and, best of all, she cares about all the citizens, not a privileged few.

Her concern for citizens led her to move the public comments portion to the beginning of commission meetings rather than have citizens sit through the entire meeting to speak last.

She alone opposed spending $7 million on the raceway park, plus another $655,000 on raceway upgrades.

Many citizens may not know that Bonnie donated $7,000 of her own salary to bring in a consultant to facilitate strategy meetings.

Despite all this and many more achievements, the Spokesman chose not to endorse her, which is hard to comprehend.

So, while Abigail Adams is gone, Bonnie Mager remains to serve her community, and I, for one, am grateful.
