Burn series a must-read

All consuming!

Perhaps not the best term to describe the magnificent coverage of the historic fire in North Idaho. But nonetheless true. I couldn’t put it down and have cut out each issue for safekeeping. Our kids and grandkids need to know about this historic event.

Major “props” to Jim Kershner, Becky Kramer, Chris Anderson, Rich Landers and anyone else on the S-R staff that contributed to this remarkable series.

I rode the Route of the Hiawatha last summer. I only wish your Flame & Ruin series would have preceded that trip to provide even greater meaning to that remarkable landscape.

One final thought. The total size of the burn is really hard to visualize. After reviewing all eight issues I failed to see a map that superimposed the complete burn areas over an Idaho and Montana map. The closest was the map of the proposed Great Burn Wilderness Area. Perhaps that same concept could be expanded to include the entire Big Burn area.

Thanks for great reporting.
