Pullman isn’t as snowed under as expected

And now time for Ollie Williams and the Pullman weather report. Ollie? … OK, I admit it would be impossible for me to capture Ollie’s trademark style on the digital page, but let’s just say he wouldn’t be screaming about snow. Yes folks, the weather wasn’t as bad as the apocalypse forecasted. Heck, after I got home just before midnight last night, it doesn’t look as if it snowed anymore. So the possible 8 inches didn’t come close to fruition. So maybe the Snow Bowl 2010 hype can slow down a bit. Read on for more WSU news.

• Washington State: We do have some snow-related news, however. Watched WSU remove snow from Martin Stadium for a bit yesterday. It’s a pretty slick operation. The small plows, with rubber-tipped blades, push the snow to the sidelines. Meanwhile, the snow in the stands is pushed to the aisles, where there is a chute. The snow is put on the chute and is gravity-assisted to the field, mixing with the piles from the playing surface. There, front-loaders scoop the snow into the back of dump trucks, which take it to another part of campus and dump it. The trucks stay off the playing surface and only drive on the sides nearest the stands. We’ll see how well the system works between now and Saturday. … The most current weather report for Saturday from the Weather Channel: Sunny and cold, with a high of 26 that day and a low of 17. Between now and then, better than 50 percent chance of more snow today and tomorrow with Friday looking snowless. … Now back to Tom Tucker with the sports. … Yes, there was a college basketball game in Pullman last night, though the crowd was kept to a minimum by the tough road conditions – roads were closed all over the area and there was a big fire in Colfax that forced a detour on U.S. 195. As our story says, there is hope DeAngelo Casto will be in the lineup, but Reggie Moore is still pretty questionable. … On to football.
