Help local economy

After listening to a lot of gloom and doom in the media about our economy, I was encouraged by a PBS show I viewed called “NOW: Fixing the Future.” The topic was a fairly straightforward concept to strengthen local economies. (It can be viewed on the PBS website.)

I have since learned a little more about “BALLES.” I Googled it to find it means Business Alliance for Local Living Economies. Anyhow, in my Internet search I saw that Nov. 26-Dec. 5 is Buy Local Week.

They even have a press release on the website www.livingeconomies.org /2010-buy-local-week. I think it would be helpful for people to reflect on the economic benefits of shopping locally – even local newspapers.
