All-Pac-10 awards announced
COUGARS
The coaches’ final All-Pac-10 team was announced this morning and there were no Washington State players on either the first or second team. With a 1-8 conference record that is not surprising. But there was one big surprise, to me anyway, so read on.

• You know USC is still USC when Robert Woods is named the Pac-10’s offensive freshman of the year. That’s the only thing I can think. The offensive numbers, in all games and in Pac-10 contests, favor Marquess Wilson by a pretty good margin. Overall, the two had the same amount of receiving touchdowns (six), Woods had nine more receptions in one more game and Wilson had 220 more yards. If you add in the obvious fact USC’s offense was much-more balanced than Washington State’s, meaning opponents had to worry more about the Trojan running game, than Wilson’s numbers become even more impressive. Especially considering despite that balance, USC threw 68 more passes that WSU. Wait, Woods had impressive kick return numbers? Isn’t that part of special teams play? Don’t coaches always talk about the three phases of the game, offense, defense and special teams? So why would you consider special teams stats in with an offensive award? Seems a little odd to me. … The other Cougars who earned honorable mention recognition are: senior punter Reid Forrest, junior offensive lineman B.J. Guerra, junior receiver Jared Karstetter, sophomore defensive end Travis Long, sophomore safety Tyree Toomer, sophomore quarterback Jeff Tuel and senior center Zack Williams. … If you want to access the entire team, you can here .
