Critics loud but invisible

I am angry that Chris Cargill was given a platform on Nov. 28 to bash the Children’s Investment Fund.

I’ve spent nearly a decade in Spokane working with the young people that Mr. Cargill uses as justification for his “expert” opinion. But the funny thing is, I don’t remember ever seeing Mr. Cargill anywhere that I was. Not on the streets, at the bus stations or in the shelters, community centers, detention centers or outreach programs. Nowhere.

As a matter of fact, I don’t remember seeing any of the folks who were the loudest critics of the Children’s Investment Fund actually doing the work. Criticizing is much easier.

I spent week after week over the past year with a small group of dedicated men and women that put their hearts, bodies and reputations on the line trying to make a difference for children in Spokane. Whether or not you agree with what we did, at least we got up off of our collective behinds and did something besides talk.

Since Mr. Cargill and others seem to know best what will and will not work, I am going to sit myself back down and watch what they do. Talk is cheap.
