Zags grind out win over Baylor
Gonzaga overcame a steady dose of adversity — major foul trouble, Steven Gray’s injury, a pro-Baylor crowd at the American Airlines Center in Dallas — and pulled out a 68-64 victory over the ninth-ranked Bears.
Marquise Carter made 5 of 6 free throws in the last 43.8 seconds as Gonzaga registered its first win over a ranked foe in five tries this season. GU had lost nine straight to ranked opponents.
Robert Sacre had 17 points, Carter 13 and Sam Dower 10. Elias Harris scored eight points before fouling out. Kelly Olynyk chipped in seven points, including a key 3-pointer that gave Gonzaga the lead for good, 61-59, with 1:45 remaining. Gray (back spasms) didn’t play in the second half.
Perry Jones III scored 19 points to lead Baylor. LaceDarius Dunn was just 4 of 14 from the field and finished with 17 points.
More in about 90 minutes.
