WSU set to face Santa Clara
COUGARS
We’re going to be monitoring the Washington State game tonight from Spokane and, like a lot of you, I’ll be listening to Bud Nameck and following gametracker. Then I’ll be putting together a writeup for tomorrow’s paper. We have some thoughts, so read on.

• Before the game tips off, we wanted to throw a couple links your way, like this one to our story on Marcus Capers if you missed it. And then there’s this advance from CougCenter and this summary from Lewiston. … The first semester at WSU is over and break has started. Like a lot of students, the basketball players are using to time to take a trip. It’s just the players are, as Marcus Capers called it, making a business trip. The first stop is in the Bay Area, with WCC’s Santa Clara University – Nameck’s alma mater – up tonight. Most everyone predicted the Broncos would be a middle-of-the-road team in the WCC, with Gonzaga, Loyola, St. Mary’s and Portland – and 84-68 victim of the Cougars in Seattle – probably the consensus top four picks. But Santa Clara is tough at home, as are most WCC schools (remember the NIT game in Moraga a couple years ago?) so tonight’s matchup might be a little tougher than most imagine. … We’ll try to update the game’s progress through Twitter (vinceg55) if we can, but because we are not there, we’ll see how it goes.

• That’s all for now. We’ll be back at halftime. Until then …
