Warning: ‘True Grit’ snub is political!
As a movie reviewer, I’m accustomed to taking unpopular positions — witness the debate I’m having with my friend, the young critic Nathan Weinbender, about “Black Swan.” Thing is, I always try to stick with the issue of art and what makes it work … or not. I seldom try to make a larger political point out of my reviews, even when I’m reviewing the work of Michael Moore.
Jack Cashill , who likes to describe himself as “an Emmy-award winning independent writer and producer with a Ph.D. in American Studies from Purdue (University, I presume), takes a different tack. In trying to explain why “True Grit” received no Golden Globe Best Motion Picture nominations, he takes the position implied by my headline above.
It’s a liberal, Eurocentric plot, he claims in a syndicated column .
Wonder how long it’s going to take him to try to work a deal with the Coens?
