WSU faces Arizona invasion
COUGARS
Despite there being only one Pac-10 game – it was a pretty fun game to watch, don’t you think? – on FSN yesterday, there is a decent amount of news available. We’ve got a few links available, so read on.

• Washington State: Not only did I watch the Arizona win over Cal, moving the Wildcats into a tie with the Bears for first in the conference, I also watched Virginia dismantle UNC in the Dean Dome. It looks as if the Cavaliers are buying into the defense and are running their offenses, including Tony Bennett’s favorite, blocker/mover, better. And it’s obvious North Carolina is nowhere near as good as it was that night in Charlotte in the NCAA tourney. Nowhere near. … One WSU link, from freelancer Howie Stalwick on the stadium renovation being pushed back another year. It’s a tough time to raise money, that’s for sure.

• Around the Pac-10: So Arizona won and moved back into first place . Anyone out there believe the Wildcats are going to win the Pac-10? Anyone think they’ll be in first place after this week? And, more importantly, anyone think they’ll win a game in Washington? Just wondering. … Nic Wise was nearly unstoppable at the end of the game – as an aside, I was amazed to see Cal’s Jerome Randle take a top-of-the-key 3-pointer, kick his leg out and get the foul call late in the game. Watched it three times. When are the officials going to start calling this blatant offensive foul? – slicing through the Bears with key buckets and the game winner . … The single game this week: OSU playing host to the Oregon Ducks. The Ducks are on a roll, and a two-game winning streak. … After telling an LA Times reporter he was going to think about it, USC coach Kevin O’Neill confirmed he had fired the student manager who received a key technical Saturday. … A couple of football links before we go. The Oregonian’s Ken Goe caught up with former Oregon coach Rich Brooks, who is retiring and settling down. … Buster Sports Nick Daschel has some expectations the Pac-10 this fall.

• That’s all for this morning. We’ll be back as events warrant. Until then …
