Why CindyH Dislikes School Holidays

  • 1. Piano Practice: I was awakened at 8:30 this morning by a child practicing “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.” Loudly.
  • 2. Cat in the rafters: I heard loud meowing from the basement. The kids had put Milo in the rafters “because he wanted to explore.” Unforunately, he explored out of the reach and got stuck. Spent some time orchestrating his release.
  • 3. Recorder Practice: Sam decided to practice “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow” on his recorder, instead of the piano. Loudly.
  • 4. Wrestling: Three boys at home means several wrestling matches. Not all participants are willing. (Rest of list below)

Question: What do you think of school holidays? Like them? Loathe them? Why?

5) Blood: Sam found fake blood leftover from Halloween and decided to use the family camcorder to make a movie. He neglected to tell me. I may have over-reacted a bit when I saw the red smears pooled around his eyes and under his chin.
6) Food: Currently on my kitchen table: An empty Captain Crunch box, a half-empty bag of Doritos, several splotches of salsa (could be blood), valentine candy wrappers, juice boxes, water bottles, and a defrosting bag of chicken nuggets.
7) Guns: Alex decided to use up the rest of the CO2 in his paintball gun by loading it with Sam’s Nerf darts and shooting them at his brothers. And the cat.
8) Exercise: Instead of my peaceful Wii Fit workout, I chased Alex around the yard. I’m sure I burned more calories, but Alex had way too much fun. So did the neighbors.
9) Tea: In an effort to soothe my frazzled nerves I made myself a nice pot of tea, and put it on a tray with the creamer and a china teacup. While I was chasing Alex, Milo knocked over the cream. And the tea cup. He’s hiding somewhere with the boys.
10) Silence: It’s way too quiet. I can’t work. I hear whispering. I’d rather hear “For He’s a Jolly Good Fellow.”
