Morality went AWOL

The Spokesman-Review

War is hell. There is no morality in hell. We send our soldiers into hell and fret over their sexuality.

I am of the Vietnam generation. We hit Vietnam with everything except nukes. Vietnamese never attacked us. Yet, we killed thousands and abandoned our veterans with no thoughts about morality.

We attacked Iraq without justification. This is a war of aggression, which is a war crime.

We place our troops in situations that defy morality. When they return with brain trauma or post-traumatic stress disorder, we send them back. Where is the morality in that?

Homosexuals have been in the militaries of the world since the beginning of time.

I was in the U.S. Army and could care less about serving with gays. I do care about killing innocent people with napalm and cluster bombs. I care that our undeclared wars are too easy to start and impossible to end. Killing people is serious business and needs the deepest moral reflection. Chew on that for a while, and then worry about having men like Lt. Col. Victor Fehrenbach, a decorated combat pilot, serve our country.
