Trim at the top, save teachers

The Spokesman-Review

Why is it whenever we have budget crises in education, the first thing touted is laying off teachers? I ask myself why is it necessary to have redundant management in every school in the state? Can’t one person manage five or six elementary schools?

Academia should take a look at the real world and see what a person is capable of. The savings of reducing the principals, vice principals and the support staff would save the state an enormous amount of money and leave the important teachers to do what they are needed for.

I see the education system in this state as being very top-heavy. Time to do some radical changes.
