WSU win over USC, the day after
COUGARS
Another fine April, er, February morning, with the sun shining, a little frost on the roofs and some yard work in the near future. I could do without the last item, that’s for sure. But sometimes you have to just get after it, which is exactly what WSU did yesterday. They just got after it and showed what some dedication to defense will get you. We wrote

• Washington State: We had our game story in the paper, but as I said, there’s a lot more on the link above, along with some post-game comments. … Klay Thompson’s reiterated to freelancer Howie Stalwick what his dad said on the radio recently, that there’s no way he’s headed to the NBA after this year, and that was part of Stalwick’s game story in the Kitsap Sun and other papers. Thompson knows, his dad knows, everyone knows he’s going to get there eventually, but there is still a lot of work to get done. … From the USC locker room, here is the LA Times gamer . … There is this piece in the Orange County Register. … More on Bill Moos and WSU from Stalwick.

• Around the Pac-10: OK, which of you have this conference pegged? I sure don’t. Let’s see how Saturday went. … Oregon State, which pounds first-place Cal on Thursday, has a chance to get to .500 overall, leads Stanford by two at halftime and loses , 65-55. … The Cardinal, who won their first road game against Oregon, is the only conference team to sweep the weekend, as Landry Fields becomes a distributor (16 points, 11 rebounds and six assists) against OSU’s zone. … UCLA wins by 20 in Pullman, goes 290 miles west and loses by 27 at UW. … The Huskies say goodbye to Quincy Pondexter, the player that most resembles the conference’s up-and-down nature this season, with an easy 97-68 victory . … So there is some consistency. It’s in Eugene. The Ducks lost for the 10th time in their last 12 games, 64-49 against Cal. … The Bears, smarting from Thursday’s loss at OSU, get a lift from big Max Zhang in the win . … One more game this weekend, in the desert as a revenge-seeking ASU travels to Tucson and takes on a slumping Kyle Fogg and the Arizona Wildcats.
