Patrick: We’re Growing, Just Ask Us

JohnA: I’m curious also about the CDA Press readership going up. It’s apparently based not only on subcriptions but papers being ‘passed on’. How could they possibly measure that? I am interested in DFOs read on this article. Mike Patrick’s Coeur d’Alene Press article here .

DFO: A couple of Merry Hucksters wanted to know what I thought of this propaganda piece by Press Managing Editor Mike Patrick this weekend. I don’t know if the figures quoted by Patrick are real or not — or how much of the readership is the result of subscribers sharing their papers and the Press giving away papers. Patrick and the many editors before him since I’ve been in Coeur d’Alene have a tendency to exaggerate circulation and readership numbers. Patrick didn’t talk about “paid circulation” for a good reason. Unlike the Spokesman-Review, Press paid-circulation numbers aren’t audited. There’s no way to verify the actual paid circulation of the Press. Never has been. Show me the real numbers if you want me to be impressed.
