Truth and fairness in labeling

The Spokesman-Review

I was not surprised to read that Sarah Palin will be appearing on the so-called Fox News Network. That network should be a perfect fit for her.

But I nearly fell out of my chair laughing when I read her comment that the network “values fair and balanced news.” The truth, of course, is that the network is so far from being “fair and balanced” that it’s a fraud to call it a “news” network at all. It’s really just a propaganda network for the Republican Party.

Less fraudulent names would be “the network to promote right-wing authoritarianism,” or “the network to spew forth venomous neo-fascist drivel.” (I realize that my proposals are a bit cumbersome; I encourage readers to come up with simpler, catchier names.)
