Court ruling abuses power

The Spokesman-Review

Thanks to a Republican, President Theodore Roosevelt, our country has enjoyed 103 years of protection against corporate lobbyists pouring cash into federal campaigns. Our Republican majority on the Supreme Court, in an opinion authored by Justice Anthony Kennedy, has trashed that precedent and opened the floodgates to allow unfiltered pollution of our public debate by corporations in the name of free speech. There is nothing free about this cynical abuse of power.

Who is Anthony Kennedy? His biography states, “Kennedy had a talent for socializing and soon made many friends among the influential California politicians. He often entertained clients and guests at lavish parties and exclusive restaurants.” ( www.oyez.org)

Having once decreed the outcome of a presidential election, our partisan Republican court majority, led by a former beer lobbyist, now aims to determine the outcome of future elections. A decision bound for infamy.
