Border control requires rules
I’ve yet to meet the person who was in any way opposed to legal immigration. It’s illegal immigration that causes all the problems.
Any nation, assuming it wants to remain one for long, absolutely must make firm decisions on how many foreigners will be allowed to cross its borders to become assimilated among its own citizenry. An effective border-control apparatus must be installed to support/sustain those decisions.
Some say that borders, boundaries, national identities and such are outmoded, archaic concepts which only stand in the way of diversity and the universal brotherhood of man.
To some extent I agree that diversity brings enrichment. There are some foreign customs, manners, attitudes and habits that I find interesting, even fascinating – maybe even stir my sense of the marvelous, the wonderful and the fantastic. Sorry to say, there are some also which I find to be utterly revolting.
If we decide to trade our national identity for something else, we had best be sure that what we acquire in the exchange is something better or at least just as good as that which we lose. I have my doubts about either.
