Jail plan defies logic
The county is laying off 67 correction officers because of a decline in the prison population. The salaries not paid to the laid-off personnel should in some very small way aid in reducing the financial deficit faced by the county.
However, despite a projected deficit, the county continues to plan for building a new prison facility that appears to be unneeded due to the declining prison population. Only politicians could come up with such an arcane reasoning process and at the same time be confident that they would be able to convince a gullible electorate that the decision-making process was logical.
