Protection we don’t need

I recently received an e-mail from our Rep. Cathy McMorris Rodgers telling me about how much she is doing to protect interests in Congress. She indicated that she stood up against the health care reform and the tax increases that were levied against us – the middle class. I guess it is easy to stand against health care reform when you have the best in the nation. But I had a lot of trouble figuring out the tax increase until I realized she was talking about the repeal of Bush’s tax reduction for the rich. Gee, I’m not in that category.

Then today I discovered that she just voted against the Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (H.R. 4173) which would provide some regulatory reform to protect consumers and investors, enhance federal understanding of insurance issues, and to regulate the over-the-counter derivatives market.

I guess our recent collapse didn’t convince her that our financial system was out of control. The really sad thing is that our system is broken when representatives only vote with their party and not in the best interest of the people they serve.
