Record of service stirring

How disappointing to read Chris Marr’s supporters seeking to disparage Michael Baumgartner’s achievements. What happened to talking truth?

Michael did an outstanding job for our country while working for the State Department. We corresponded when he was in Iraq and Afghanistan. His e-mails were so interesting that I shared them with many people. We enjoyed reading his exciting updates. His integrity, humor and his great respect and appreciation for our military was obvious, as well as his compassion for the ordinary Iraqi people.

I’ve seen his certificates of commendation from Gen. Petraeus, Ambassador Crocker and the Iraqi prime minister as well as the photos of an armored truck that hit a roadside bomb in front of him. He was often in danger during that time.

I was among those who encouraged Michael to run for state Senate. Spokane as well as the state of Washington will be well served by his talent and patriotic values. He is a credit to our community.

Michael’s strong Christian faith will help him keep a sense of perspective during this campaign, and particularly through these attacks – as well as give him a solid foundation of principles in his future public service career.
