Hard time made easier

I was happy to see the editorial on Tuesday “Hospice care fills void at limits of medicine.” I know what a blessing the Hospice House has been for patients and families in Spokane, so we at Hospice of Spokane are pleased Hospice of North Idaho will soon open their community’s first hospice house.

As many know, hospice is a philosophy of care that can be provided wherever the patient calls home – whether that is a house, a nursing home or the hospital or Hospice House.

Hospice of Spokane’s team of professionals goes right to the patient and uses medical science, counseling and spiritual support to help patients and their loved ones have the best possible quality of life. Hospice care is available for anyone, of any age, who is expected to live six months or less and wants their care to focus on helping them feel the best they can.

No matter how someone feels about end-of-life care, it is important that they talk with their loved ones about their care wishes. While such conversations may sometimes be difficult, they can bring people closer together and help ensure people’s wishes are honored.
