Broad drilling ban simplistic

The Spokesman-Review

Your June 11 article “Congressional delegation at odds” precisely shows the maturity and common sense of Congresswoman Cathy McMorris Rodgers, compared to Sens. Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell. By introducing legislation that would permanently ban all drilling off the Pacific Coast, the senators have again shown that the desires of their narrow environmental supporters take precedence over our nation’s greater energy needs.

The Deepwater Horizon spill is a multifaceted disaster. Our congresswoman’s approach of understanding the spill’s cause and moving judiciously ahead to allow and guide future drilling will do more to protect our coastal environments and communities and provide our country with a dependable and reasonably priced supply of domestic energy than our senators’ emotional reaction. Thank you, Cathy.
